In recent years, 3D printing has moved from what was called “addictive manufacturing”, the unappealing and impersonal industrial process of prototypes’ production, to the personal digital fabrication, an innovative and affordable new technology that can finally enable people to create on their own finished products of all sorts.
It is the kind of technology that aims to change the world, that gives space to creativity, affordability, reachability, individuality.
And this is exactly what 3D printing brand Goosebumps Lab offers, with the aim of creating products to be sold to mass market, thanks to affordable 3D printers, rather than using the more expensive, and time consuming, industrial printers.
Goosebumps Lab was born in 2013 and it has been growing since then, constantly working with creative businesses as well as experimenting its own products. Located in East London, in the hearth of the vibrant community of Hackney Downs Studios, the 3D printing brand has found here great chances to share its work with a growing community of creative people who operate in all sorts of fields, from Fashion design to film or music production, to give few examples.
Behind this brand there is the great passion and curiosity of its founder, Philip, a designer with a background experience in product design and architectural studios. Through his skills and growing experience in 3D printing he can create beautiful objects, using desktop 3D printers.
He has already worked with product designers, fashion designers, musicians, architectural studios, artists, creating with his 3D printers both prototypes and finished products. With Goosebumps Lab he is part of the worldwide platform network for 3D printing, 3Dhubs, through which he constantly collects new commissions, and thanks to it he earned the certification for making what we can consider the first consumer 3D printed product, the Fairphone case, by now printed in several colours and designs made by the community of Fairphone itself.
Goosebumps Lab has also been selected two times by 3DHubs for exhibiting with them at the 3DPrint Show 2014 in London and at the TCT Show 2014 in Birmingham, two wonderful experiences.
The latest most exciting experience involving Goosebumps Lab has been the #3Dprintday, at the Hackney Downs Studios well known café, The Russet: a weekly chance to everybody to personally experience live 3D printing while having a cup of coffee or a slice of cake.
Thanks to Philip’s hard work and his experience in the field, Goosebumps Lab’s 3D printing is becoming faster and more precise: he can now print all kinds of objects in several shades of colours, with special filaments such as bronzefill, copperfill and woodfill.
3D printing is part of our future, growing fast in our present and Goosebumps Lab is becoming part of it.
